Swarapendidikan.com – Literacy in Indonesia says that the Dutch colonized Indonesia for 350 years.
Long time to give birth to 6 generations. But the ancestors of the Indonesian people lived in oppressed conditions by the ancestors of the Dutch.
In a number of records, there was a lot of forced slavery when building roads, railroads and plantations.
Countless number of victims fell. One of the reasons the Dutch controlled Indonesia in the first place was because of the spices which were found in abundance in this country and had a high selling value.
AT the Nationaalarchief Building, The Hague, Netherlands, Prime Minister Mark Rutte spoke carefully and carefully on his podium Monday (19/12/2022) local time.
Occasionally he would look at the sheets of paper in front of him before emphasizing a few sentences regretting and apologizing for the sins of his country’s slavery in the past.
“In this National Archives, history speaks to us through millions of documents. And even though we can’t hear the voices of the past, the stories that emerge from all those documents aren’t always pretty. In fact, it is often bad, painful, and even embarrassing,” Rutte said in his speech, quoted by the Dutch government’s official website.
Rutte, in the continuation of his speech, acknowledged and regretted the role of the Netherlands both through its trading partners and its government 250 years ago which were involved in the practice of slavery as well as the slave trade.
It became a dark record that caused unspeakable suffering and Rutte condemned it as a crime against humanity
